A lot of the chaos in our lives has to do with our own insecurities, fears, bitterness, and uncertainty about our relationships with others. NEWSFLASH: people are NOT perfect. People will let you down. Yes, even your family, even your spouse, best friends, etc. The only person who will NEVER let you down is..
Jesus. Jesus is the answer. Jesus is our peace. Jesus is our Hope. Jesus is our light. Jesus is the friend we need, the lover of our souls that we crave. He’s the one w
“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”—Ephesians 2:10
When you start thinking about your life as something that God wrote and planned years before you were even born, it changes your outlook entirely.
It’s often hard for us to look at our present circumstances and realize this. That’s WHY..
Sometimes we have to look BACK at all of those times when we felt uncertain, when we worried, or when things
Our Haplous Bible study is currently reading about the Armor of God.
I read this study 3 years ago but as I re-read it now it is an amazing reminder that we can never be TOO aware of the spiritual battle going on around us.
How do we fight back? The word "fight" doesn't usually come to mind when we think of Jesus. I think we see Him as being a peaceful ray of Joy and nothing more. Jesus is multi-faceted beyond our comprehension. He is not only a comforter, friend, and well
"For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. "--Ephesians 6:12
The best trick the devil ever played is getting us to believe he doesn't exist. If he doesn't exist, then we can can justify the struggles that happen to us as just "part of life."
IT DOESN'T HAVE TO BE THAT WAY. When Jesus died for us, He gave us the ab
The Haplous tribe just started our April Bible study ALL about the Armor of God! In the book written by Priscilla Shirer, she points out that one of the main strategies of the enemy (yes, the devil) is to DECEIVE you into believing that there is not a spiritual battle happening in YOUR life. Yeah--there definitely IS a battle going on against you every day. But guess what? When you REALIZE & ADMIT this, the battle is halfway won! We have to understand our weaknesses in order
“Jesus did many other things as well. If every one of them were written down, I suppose that even the whole world would not have room for the books that would be written.”—John 21:25
God is ALWAYS making moves in our lives AND the lives of the people around us. When we remember that Jesus is still alive and living in the hearts of those who put their faith in Him, our world can become so much richer.
This past Sunday I got together with these amazing gals to talk about how
“Oh Lord, oppose those who oppose me. Fight those who fight against me. Put on your armor, and take up your shield. Prepare for battle, and come to my aid.”—Psalm 35:1&2
“On the thirteenth day of the twelfth month, the month of Adar, the edict commanded by the king was to be carried out. On this day the enemies of the Jews had hoped to overpower them, but now the tables were turned and the Jews got the upper hand over those who hated them”—Esther 9
God not only blessed Esther for her trust and obedience, but the lives of thousands of Jews for years to come.
I wonder, if every person trusted God with their life and made themselves obedient to His directions, how much different and peaceful would our world look today?
We can’t always change the hearts of others, but we can Change our own hearts. Let’s start THERE. Ask God to open your heart to the Holy Spirit’s direction today.
You’ve got to start somewhere—why not star
“When Mordecai left the king’s presence, he was wearing royal garments of blue and white, a large crown of gold and a purple robe of fine linen. And the city of Susa held a joyous celebration. For the Jews it was a time of happiness and joy, gladness and honor. In every province and in every city to which the edict of the king came, there was joy and gladness among the Jews, with feasting and celebrating. And many people of other nationalities became Jews because fear of the
“Then Haman said to King Xerxes, ‘There is a certain people dispersed among the peoples in all the provinces of your kingdom who keep themselves separate. Their customs are different from those of all other people, and they do not obey the king’s laws; it is not in the king’s best interest to tolerate them.’”—ESTHER 3:8
Sometimes people think being a Christian means you have to act a certain way. But I discovered when I truly got to know the heart of Jesus, he changed MY hea
“Then the royal officials at the king’s gate asked Mordecai, ‘Why do you disobey the king’s command?’ Day after day they spoke to him but he refused to comply.” —Esther 3:3-4
Mordecai, even when faced with death, refused to bow to anyone but God. He submitted his heart AND his actions to God, trusting Him completely.
What situation in your life are you struggling to maintain control? How can you put your FULL trust and obedience in God?
TODAY: Ask God to show you where in
It’s AMAZING what happens in our lives when we OBEY.
I think more than anything, the story of Esther is about obedience. Is it easy? Of course not! We don’t like being told what to do, or what is best for us—we all have our OWN ideas of what that looks like in each of our individual lives.
But God loves us on a level that is simply unimaginable. And when we realize that, when we TRULY accept that He is good and perfect and so is His love for us, obedience becomes easier.
Where are you seeking your advice?
When things go haywire, or you’re unsure of which decision you should make...who do you call? Who do you turn to?
I know it’s tempting to pick up the phone or run to your co-workers desk or message your significant other, BUT the best thing you can do is open your heart to Jesus.
Seek HIS wisdom above all else. What does this look like practically ?
You might not have a Bible sitting at your desk, but hey...you probably have a computer!
How is God setting the scene in YOUR life?
TODAY we kick off another Haplous Bible study—this time through the book of Esther!
I love this story SO much, mainly because it exemplifies how immensely God can bless us AND other people THROUGH US when we put our trust in Him and obey His direction, however hopeless our situations might seem.
Don’t EVER assume God isn’t setting the scene in YOUR life RIGHT NOW to share His love with the people around you.
So excited to dig in
When you feel broken, He is NEAR. If you’re confused or angry about what’s happening in your life, it’s OKAY to look up to God and ask Him WHY? We should be talking to Him, seeking His PURPOSE in the PAIN.
If you’re hurting today, I encourage you to ask Jesus: “what lesson are you trying to teach me, Lord?”
His purpose + our humility and obedience = unimaginable results.
Shut off the music, put your phone down, DROP whatever it is that's distracting you from getting in a
Morning routines are different for everyone. Morning routines might be the most sacred routines to all of us. When one thing goes wrong or unexpectedly at the BEGINNING of our day, it can throw a wrench into everything. We feel "off" when things don't start out as we expect them too. On the days when I take even a FEW minutes to sit down with Jesus and spend time in His word, those few minutes refresh my spirit and carry and inexplicable peace without me throughout my day.
Keep your eyes on the Lord, and your heart will be FULL. Have you told God you love Him today? Look back and remember all of the fears He has quashed, the blessings He has showered upon you. Lean on Him ALWAYS. Talk to Him throughout the day. Prayer can be CONSTANT. Out loud, silently, WHATEVER. JUST TALK to Him. He will help you when you HUMBLE yourself and INVITE Him into the picture. Ask. Receive. Xx #haplous #thebabystepsblog #dailyinspiration #monthofpsalms
Is God your go-to?
I think we all have that person we go to when we need to VENT—life is hard! We all have our moments. But no matter how great your go-to person’s advice may be, that person can NOT see your future. That person did NOT create you. That person did NOT die, because they thought YOU were worth fighting for. Jesus did.
Wouldn’t it make sense, then, that Jesus should be our go-to? Stop thinking he’s going to judge you for all of your shortcomings. He’s here to
"How long, Lord? Will you forget me forever? How long will you hide your face from me? How long must I wrestle with my thoughts
and day after day have sorrow in my heart? How long will my enemy triumph over me? Look on me and answer, Lord my God.
Give light to my eyes, or I will sleep in death,
and my enemy will say, “I have overcome him,”
and my foes will rejoice when I fall. But I trust in your unfailing love;
my heart rejoices in your salvation.
I will sing the Lord’s
"Those who are planted in the house of the Lord shall flourish in the courts of our God." (Psalm 92:13) Those who are PLANTED. What does it mean to be planted? Let’s stop complicating our efforts to stay planted. You don’t have to have some amazing revelation every time you read the Bible. You don’t have to say the most eloquent prayer, you simply have to INVITE the Holy Spirit into your heart, and to read God’s word daily. Reading God's word daily is KEY. We HAVE to stay con
