I often wonder how people would change their behavior if they fully grasped that they are DEEPLY loved.
Our human minds constantly pull us back into a "works" mentality, tempting us to behave as though we have to earn love from God. We act this way toward our fellow human beings. We expect others to treat us well in order for them to deserve our love. But God is so much bigger than that. His love knows no bounds.
DID YOU KNOW? You can actually never do anything to make God stop loving you. That doesn't mean you will never disappoint Him or make Him sad, but He will ALWAYS love you, more than you could ever imagine.
My prayer is that personally, I will be able to GIVE more unconditional love. The only way I can even begin to attempt this is if I constantly remind myself of God's love for me. Join me and soak up God's love so that you can pour it out onto the people in your life.
Paul reminded some of the first Christians in Ephesus of this love, and we need it just as much today as they did 2,000 years ago:
"For this reason I kneel before the Father, from whom every family[a] in heaven and on earth derives its name. I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.
Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen." Ephesians 3:14-21
