Babysteps for the Girl Who's Avoiding Saying Her Prayers

Updated: Apr 11, 2018

Let me paint a picture. You’re lying in bed about to go to sleep, exhausted from a long day’s work. You know you should say your prayers but all you can seem to find the energy to do is rattle off an “I’m sorry, I know I did that thing that I said I wouldn’t do again” OR you say a half-hearted prayer to keep your loved ones healthy, safe from harm, etc. I did this for a long time. I put in minimal effort, and ended up feeling empty & aloof.

Maybe you’ve stopped praying altogether, or you never prayed in the first place because (whether you realize this or not) you don’t know how. Are you avoiding him because you feel ashamed? Maybe you stopped talking to Him because you felt guilty about something, and now you even feel guilty about the fact that you’re not talking to Him.

Here’s something straight from the good book that will encourage you: “For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin.” Hebrews 4:15.

Prayer is truly the key to building a strong relationship with Him. Just like any friendship or relationship, your relationship with Jesus is a two-way street. And guess which half of this relationship isn’t perfect? You. But unlike every other human on earth, Jesus IS. His comfort CAN fill your void like no one and no thing ever can.

Do yourself a favor and be real with Him. Don’t fake it. Tell him your smallest worries. Is it a press release you’ve been putting off at work that you can’t seem to complete? Maybe you feel sluggish constantly and don’t know why. He can help guide you through ALL of it. You just have to give Him a chance. I’ll have more on this in my next post! Stay tuned for more #babysteps #haplous Xx HAPLOUS
